Process Engineer

Location: Chesapeake, VA

Total Fiber Recovery of Chesapeake (TFRC) is a joint venture between Oregon-based Total Fiber Recovery, a subsidiary of Bulk Handling Systems, and the Swedish company CellMark Inc. This new facility will annually produce over 200,000 tons of recycled pulp from mixed paper (MP) and cardboard (OCC).

TFRC is seeking a Process Engineer to join the team in Chesapeake, VA.

This position performs a critical role in optimizing and improving manufacturing processes within the facility. This position is responsible for analyzing existing processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality. This position also will work cross-functionally with various departments and teams to support the needs of the facility.

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or paper science engineering
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing/industrial/processing facility environment
  • Can-do attitude and inspire others to do the same
  • Highly motivated, results-driven individual who can also perform well in a team setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to take calls during non-business hours as needed
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends, as necessary

  • Developing, analyzing, and optimizing facility processes, including process flow, equipment layout, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maximize output, minimize waste, and reduce cycle times
  • Conducting process audits, collecting, and analyzing data, and utilizing statistical tools and techniques to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for optimization
  • Developing and implementing process improvement initiatives
  • Conducting feasibility studies, process simulations, and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate and select the most suitable process design alternatives
  • Developing and implementing quality assurance procedures, including process controls, inspection plans, and corrective action protocols to meet product specifications and quality requirements
  • Conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions to address process-related quality issues
  • Creating and maintaining detailed documentation of manufacturing processes, including process maps, work instructions, and process control plans
  • Providing training and support to operations personnel to ensure consistent adherence to standardized processes and procedures
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, maintenance, and quality assurance, to ensure effective coordination and implementation of process improvement initiatives
